Expanded Metal

Expanded metal is a lightweight yet durable mesh offering strength, rigidity, and a high degree of open area for airflow, light, or visibility. Metal mesh is created through offset cuts in sheet metal that is simultaneously stretched, resulting in diamond-shaped openings. Rhombos expanded metal is typically crafted from galvanized steel and can be finished with a clear lacquer or powder-coat paint. A variety of expansion patterns are available, and custom fabrication is possible. The mesh is neatly welded to the solid framework surfaces, resulting in a very flat and sturdy ceiling panel.

Rhombos can be custom fabricated into various shapes and sizes and installed using different ceiling panel systems such as suspended clouds, torsion spring panels, and clip-in systems. A rail-channel system is offered for wall panels. There are various options for wall-to-ceiling transitions. For high impact or secure environments, hardware is available to enhance panel durability, locking them firmly into the supporting framework.

Due to the broad open area of expanded metal mesh, it is acoustically transparent. Sound absorption is typically achieved by adding low-cost insulation like fiberglass batts or spray-applied absorption behind the panels.
